Paraty

Paraty is a small and charming old colonial town from 17th century, located 4 hours from Rio de Janeiro, on the Costa Verde (Green Coast), a lush, green corridor that runs along the coastline of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
In the Tupi language “Paraty” means “river of fish”.

Paraty has become a popular tourist area in recent years, renowned for the beauty of the town and the magnificence of the coast and mountains in the region.

The town is located on the Bay of Ilha Grande, which is dotted with many tropical islands.
After the discovery of the world's richest gold mines in 1696, in the mountains of Minas Gerais, Paraty became an export port for gold to Rio de Janeiro and from there to Portugal.
Today, the port of Paraty is the starting point of many boat tours to the beautiful beaches of the Paraty Bay.

The colonial city of Paraty is considered by UNESCO, a National Historic Monument.

Without any doubts, one of the main attractions at Paraty is its Historic Center, ideal to stroll along by foot and travel to the past.

The colonial housing, totally preserved, is reserved to pedestrians only (vehicles are prohibited). During the day, and even more at night, there are a lot of options such as art studios, shows, concerts and a theatre, aside the excellent gastronomy of the region.
